Today, Shapcotts Accountants are proud to celebrate 35 years in business. We have been advising and supporting businesses, both locally and nationally, since 30 July 1984. It was founded by Melvin Shapcott FCA, the day after his daughter was born, working from the kitchen table. Since then Shapcotts Accountants has expanded to 20 employees and provides accountancy and taxation services to over 900 clients from our offices on The Wyvern, Derby.
Melvin’s daughter, Kimberley, decided to study accountancy at Newcastle University, before working at Pricewaterhouse Coopers in London then returning to Derby to work with her father. When Melvin retired last year Kimberley Shapcott FCA took over as Senior Partner. Nick Parkes FCCA joined the firm in 2016 and has since become a director to support the growth of the business and the developing needs and requirements of our client base. Shapcotts is very much a family business, with Janet Shapcott as Practice Manager and Andrew Shapcott as Marketing Assistant.
As a business, we aim to build long-lasting relationships with our team and clients. There are still a few clients who have been with us from the very beginning, and others where we are now looking after the third generation. For those who have become clients recently, we look forward to working with them for many years to come.
We would like to thank current and former employees (especially Emma, Ian, Debra and Sharon who have been assisting clients at Shapcotts for between 19 and 24 years) and clients who have helped the business grow and develop. We are very much looking forward to the next 35!
Looking towards the future
Kimberley adds: “The accountancy profession has seen many changes since Melvin started the business. We believe that businesses need to remain up to date in an increasingly digital world. Most businesses are now using cloud accounting and many clients having to deal with the Making Tax Digital changes. As accountants, we are as digital as possible and look to utilise the best solutions to support our clients. We have introduced regular webinars for our property clients and speak regularly at seminars to assist investors in remaining current with the frequent changes in this sector. We now offer a range of packages to suit start-ups, growing businesses and entrepreneurs. These can help business owners focus on their business journey to achieve their business and personal goals.”
Today we have also expanded our social media to include Instagram, so any active users please follow us! Next month we will also be increasing the content on our YouTube channel. We currently host our live webinars here, and we will also be adding regularly updated short videos to share knowledge with business owners.
