On 12 May 2020 the Chancellor has announced an extension to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. The initial period for the furlough scheme was due to end on 30 June 2020 but this has now been extended until 31 October 2020.
He has also stated that from the end of July measures will be introduced to ensure the cost of the scheme is shared with employers, but employees will continue to receive 80% of their salary subject to a cap of £2,500 per month.
From August to October, although the scheme will continue, employers will also be able to bring back furloughed employees as part-time workers and at the same time share the cost.
More expansive details of these changes to the scheme are due to be released at the end of May.
