The EU have introduced new legislation, the Construction Products Regulation 2013, which came into force on July 1st 2013. This has been introduced to transpose the EU legislation into UK Law, this legislation will affect the marketing and accreditation of construction products.
If you purchase construction materials or equipment you should now find there is much clearer safety information available in the form of a “declaration of performance”. Much like the traffic light labels you find on food, this will make it easier to directly compare products.
The information on these labels will include
- Fire Safety
- Safety and accessibility in use
- Protection against noise
There are also some others on mechanical strength and environmental impact.
What does this mean for a purchaser? You can now make more informed purchasing decisions. This legislation in the impacts manufacturers and distributors who must make sure their products have the proper labels.
