With the advancement and excessive ease of technology over the years, many businesses have taken to sending their sales invoices to customers electronically, rather than in paper form. This has many benefits.
- Faster
- t’s Safer
- Environmentally Friendly
- Cheaper
However, it could lead to some difficulties…
With the old style of hardcopy invoices, businesses often sent invoices on letter-headed company paper to which they only needed to add the details of the sale. Easy! The letter-headed paper would already have contained the required important details:
- The Business Name
- The Business Address
- VAT REGISTRATION NUMBER
But these details have not always been transferred to their electronic counterparts. The obvious two, the Business Name and Address are almost always present. After all, you need to let your customer know who is asking for their money.
The VAT Registration Number is something often forgotten on electronic invoices. However the invoice is sent, VAT registered businesses must include your VAT Registration Number on the invoice.
This is a requirement for invoices under HMRC regulations, so you will need to make sure all your email templates include these vital pieces of information and don’t let the taxman catch you out!
